Proven Success

Acne scars treatment can help many people whose skin was disfigured by acne. Once a person's acne goes away, the damage that it leaves can last a lifetime-and can be especially pronounced if a person had been in the habit of picking at his or her acne. Fortunately, however, you don't have to live with your acne scars. As the technology used in dermatology continues to advance, more and more options are opening up when it comes to treatment.

First of all, remember that you can't go in for acne scars treatment unless you no longer suffer from active acne. Once you're ready to begin a course of acne scars treatment, the first step will be for a dermatologist to determine what kind of scars you have on your body. Ice pick scars, to take one example, are deep and sharp scars, similar in appearance to the scars someone would have had they been attacked with an ice pick. (You might wonder who came up with that name!) Rolling scars are scars that make the skin looks as though it were slightly hilly, or rolling, and these particular scars are caused when skin that otherwise would look normal on the surface attaches itself to damaged skin underneath. Then there are boxcar scars-again, kind of an odd name for a scar-which are scars that are shallow and generally round.

What exactly does acne scars treatment consist of, anyhow? There are several main options at your disposal, depending on how deep your scars are and how much damage has been done to the tissue. There's the subcision method (more properly known as a subcutaneous incision), which will work on rolling scars, breaking the bonds between the healthy surface skin and the damaged skin tissue underneath. This method could cause bleeding, and bruises that will last for about a week or so. Then there's laser resurfacing acne scars treatment, in which a laser will burn off a person's top layers of skin, and the body will replace this skin with new, unscarred skin. And punch grafts involve the physical removing of scarred skin, which is then replaced with healthy skin grafts.
